IP3 2024 – Multimodal Transportation Routing (Lot 15535)
This lot is generally related to multimodal vehicle routing system to determine optimal route to a destination and techniques to identify parking places along the route. Techniques are disclosed to determine routing information to a destination consisting of a navigation system which determines means of transportation for a first leg and a second leg with an intermediate stop and alternate means of transportation along the route taken by a user. The system obtains and stores travel times, tolls, mass transit information, parking information with charges, walkways, etc., along the determined route. The system uses stored data, an origin point, a destination point, a time of a day, and user route preference and relative weighting of travel costs. Then the system automatically determines the destination with in-route parking. Also disclosed is that the system has a route-finding algorithm, which is executed to generate an initial route to the destination based on the user preferences, and identifies available parking at the destination with cost parameters. Further disclosed is that if no parking is available at the destination, the system identifies secondary parking with a new route based on set cost parameters. The technology may be implemented in navigation systems, route guidance systems, parking-based route navigation systems, route search systems, etc.
