Disclosed is a technique to protect the identity of a person such as a social security number and birthdate to protect the person from losses or fraud. Disclosed is a technique to authenticate a person’s identity to a business entity using a third party trusted entity having a secure repository for storing the identity information. The person registers with the trusted entity and accesses their account using a user name and password. Also disclosed are techniques to grant a unique code to the person so that the person can authenticate the identity to the business and deliver the unique code to the transaction entity. The technology may be implemented in user authentication systems, personal information security systems, theft protection systems, etc.
