Wireless Charging & Alignment Technologies (DEAL 679)

A wireless charging system for charging mobile devices, techniques to detect foreign objects for wireless power transmission, and techniques for aligning a subsurface wireless charger. A set of patents in the portfolio discloses a technique that detects metallic objects in a wireless power transfer system by temporarily interrupting power transmission and shorting the receiver resonant circuit. A set of patents in the portfolio discloses efficient wireless charging of a smartwatch using a multi-layer, single-turn, orthogonally oriented transmitting coil array. Another set of patents in the portfolio discloses precise alignment and installation of a concealed wireless charger by using magnet-based localization through a structure to correlate surface placement with a subsurface mounting position. Further disclosed is a technique to automatically move a wireless charging coil to align with a detected device for efficient power transfer. The technology may be implemented in wireless charging pads, electric vehicle wireless charging systems, industrial wireless power systems, smart wireless charging surfaces, drone charging stations, etc.
