Smart Femtocell Activation and Network Management (DEAL 625)

This portfolio is generally related to various technologies, such as acquiring time synchronization and location information with a femtocell and defining a silence zone in an area in wireless communications. Disclosed are femtocells or access point base stations to provide cellular service to mobile devices using the data service to enhance indoor or outdoor coverage and quality of service (QoS). Disclosed is an access point base station that automatically transmits an activation to a service provider through a wired connection, and the service provider provides wireless communication in a macro area through the base station. The base station performs the first procedures to acquire time synchronization by simultaneously employing a CDMA channel and a highly detectable pilot protocol. The base station performs a second procedure to acquire the location of the access point base station by simultaneously employing a position determination entity request and the highly detectable pilot protocol. The base station transmits the acquired location to the service provider and determines a change in a corresponding wireless network to report the change to the service provider before receiving updated operational parameters. Further disclosed are techniques to create a localized silence area to avoid audio use of mobile devices in an event. The technology may be implemented in WLAN, smart homes, femtocells, low-power cellular base stations, home wireless access points, etc.
