The attendance monitoring system consists of wireless enabled student-specific identification tags and scanners at the entry of a particular area for detection of tags. Also disclosed is a handheld device used by teachers to verify the automated attendance count and a server for managing the attendance data received from the scanners. Further disclosed are techniques to track location of students within the campus and prepare customized reports used by administration authorities. The technology may be implemented in attendance tracking system, conference management system, etc.
