Femtocell Handoff Techniques (DEAL 616)
This lot is generally related to low power base stations in wireless network. Disclosed are techniques for providing efficient and automatic handoffs between a femto cell and the access point base station which are connected to a service provider through a wired connection. Techniques are disclosed to obtain various optimal parameters to provide seamless handoff by receiving a measurement signal from a mobile device and obtain the femtocell access point’s geographical location. The system obtains the femtocell’s propagation characteristics based on a coverage area and environmental information and transmit the measurement parameter to the service provider in first information. Also disclosed are techniques to receive second information from the service provider which is obtained from the femtocell access point’s measurements and derive a propagation model having various handoff parameters. The handoff parameters contains a maximum transmit power for the femtocell access point, an ID code and transmit frequency assignment for the femtocell access point and a handover power threshold. The technology may be implemented in wireless networks, WLAN, wireless base stations etc.
