IP3 2025 – HEVC Encoding (Lot 16265)

This lot is generally related to a high efficiency video coding (HEVC) encoding technique that determines an intra-prediction mode to deliver high-quality video with reduced bitrate, enabling smoother streaming, lower storage requirements, and improved performance. Disclosed is an HEVC encoding device for determining the intra-prediction mode of an image, consisting of a candidate group updater for selecting multiple representative modes as a candidate group from among intra-prediction modes and updating the group using minimum modes selected from the group. The system includes an optimal mode selector for selecting one mode as the optimal mode from the set of minimum modes. It is also disclosed that in the penultimate update, the candidate group updater updates the group from the previous step by incorporating DC mode and planar mode. Further, disclosed is that the candidate group updater adds and subtracts variable mode values to or from each of the minimum modes and decreases the variable mode value by a predetermined ratio as the number of update repetitions increases. The technology may be implemented in video streaming platforms, real-time video conferencing systems, surveillance systems, high-efficiency video applications, etc.
