This portfolio is generally related to navigation systems. Various techniques are disclosed to determine navigation route, real-time navigation images, planning of point-to-point navigation route and automatically creating point of interest (POI) by identifying geographic information. First set of (~46) patents discloses navigation guidance on a low-end portable device along with directions of roads in intersections. The system generates point-to-point routes from a current location to a selected destination on a digital map in real-time direction and automatically creates points of interest by identifying geographic information on a screen of a portable navigation device. Few patents disclose customized location-based services such as local event, real-time news source, etc. Also disclosed are techniques to adjust a level of map details shown on the display of the navigation device. Few patents disclose crime-related safety information to a personal navigation device. Second set of patents disclose a technique to respond to incoming calls on a mobile device by determining a speed of the vehicle and searching a parking space for a vehicle by prioritizing segments close to the current location of the vehicle. Few patents in the second set disclose a technique to estimate a travel time to a venue and generate an alert for reminding users about future appointments at the venue. Further disclosed are techniques to generate off-road trail maps by a combined map database having details of off-road segments and road segments to guide the user with the best possible navigation route which saves time and distance. Few disclosed techniques are to use the navigation device for recording of outdoor activities, such as hiking, bicycling, etc., and record tracks, calculate distances travelled, speeds, and calories burned. Further disclosed techniques are to switch the navigation device between various different applications to perform different tasks. The technology may be implemented in mobile apps, maps, navigation devices, mobile phones, etc.
