This invention is generally related to management of video playback to effectively display advertisements during trick play mode. The system communicates the trick play operation to the server and select advertising content based on the trick play speed and predicted time period of the trick play operationand can also display the content during a dead air space when the content is still visible on the display device of the user. The technology may be implemented in video advertising system, video advertisement display system, live digital data streaming system, etc.
